Now, I am sure you all know that Veterans day arrived on the 11th. My school had a service where any kid with a veteran in service could come. It was a very nice assembly. We sang the national anthem, too. I want you to know what sacrifice means, at least what it means to me. Before I tell you, I would like to say that both of my grandfathers were in the army. My Poppie recently passed away at the age of 85- He was very respectful of anyone in service. He was the best hero I know. I want to keep how he felt about the Military alive. Because if everyone thought about the world like he did, the world would be a much better place to live in. Here is what I think sacrifice means:
What is a veteran?
Some people may ask this question, but does any person other than a veteran know the true answer? The only thing I know is what they give up: their sacrifice for us. There was a picture taken at an army base. It shows a soldier walking in, and a white board. The white board says this: “America is not at war, The Marine corps is, America is at the mall. What does this really state?” So many people around America say “ America is fighting a war !” But, are we? America as a whole is not, it is only the soldiers who are. They sacrifice their lives for our safety. We do not physically fight or give up anything, veterans do.
We have the freedom to go to the mall, walk down the street, and sleep without a care in our minds because of them. Do we really deserve their sacrifice? No we don't, because we are ordinary, they are extraordinary . So, the next time you go to McDonald's and see someone, a veteran, thank them. Thank you all for sacrificing everything you are for… the people of America.
